Founded in 1888, De Beers has long been home to some of the world’s most dazzling diamonds. For its 2018 Diamond Legends high jewellery collection, the brand looked to ancient mythology to inspire four exquisite jewellery sets – Cupid, Ra, Celestia and Vulcan.
The Cupid set centres around ideas of love and is focused on the joining of two elements, with classic toi et moi twin-stone rings and a two-sided necklace created with colourless, orange-brown and grey-green diamonds, while the sun god Ra acts as muse for a beautiful range that emulates sunshine. Stunning yellow diamonds set into sun-like shapes feature across earrings, a ring and showstopping pendant.
Ancient Greeks and Romans viewed diamonds as tears of the gods and the Celestia collection, with its droplet-shaped designs, is a perfect tribute to this. The tale of the Olympian god Vulcan, who legend says was working inside a dormant volcano when it exploded, launching diamonds embedded in kimberlite rock and lava across the skies, serves as the final inspiration. The Vulcan suite features a selection of outstanding fancy-coloured diamonds alongside rough-cut stones and polished round diamonds to create the illusion of volcanic rocks.
Whichever of these spectacular one-off pieces takes your fancy, it’s certain to be marvelled at for years – much like the ancient civilisations they are inspired by.
