A new mood of romance and glamour set the tone for the autumn/winter 2016 collections this fashion week season, with designers paying homage to the glamorous movie stars of the 1940s. Many fashion houses threw light on society’s misfits, with a focus on individuality and quirky geek-chic beauty. Where spring/summer 2016 favoured soft tailoring, romantic ruffles and pretty pleats, the AW16 collections shunned this age of innocence in favour of more sultry styles. Femininity and romance were still key, yet there was a sense of nostalgia and of faded beauty. From mismatched prints at Milan to gothic glamour in London, here are the top AW16 trends to look out for next season.
