10 questions with Reem Kanj of Five Five Fabulous

Reem Kanj and her sister Natalya created Five Five Fabulous back in 2009 as a fashion news blog, and it has since grown into a website through which they share their personal experiences of style, food and more. Reem writes primarily for the blog now, and we spoke exclusively to her about all things fashion

Katie Ramsingh
Katie Ramsingh,

How did you first get into blogging?
I fell into blogging quite organically. I graduated from London College of Fashion in 2009, and due to the recession found it near impossible to find a job, so I created Five Five Fabulous and five years later it has become my full-time job.

What’s your favourite thing/least favourite thing about being a blogger?
I love the creativity. I’m my own boss as a blogger and what I’ve built has enabled me to work with some of the most famous brands in the industry. I guess the only negative there is to being a blogger is there isn’t much opportunity to switch off from the internet, especially since the advent of Instagram.

How would you describe your fashion sense?
It’s not the same every day. Some days I’m super casual in jeans, a T-shirt and a leather jacket. On other days I’m a little more feminine or sophisticated. It totally depends on my mood.

Whose style do you most admire?
I love Emmanuelle Alt, Carine Roitfeld and Mira Duma.

What items do you think should be in every girl’s wardrobe?
A leather jacket, classic handbag and a good pair of high heels.

What has been your favourite designer purchase to date?
I recently bought a pair of Chanel espadrilles and I can’t get enough of them!

If money were no object what would you splash out on?
That’s a tough one. I obviously love fashion but I’m not super materialistic so I’ve never really thought about it. I would probably splash out on the holiday of a lifetime.

Which city is your favourite shopping destination and why?
I just love Paris. There’s just something about walking around the city and shopping in the beautiful boutiques, not to mention the fact that there are so many fabulous cafés at which to stop and take a break.

Where are your favourite places to shop in London?
I personally prefer shopping online when I’m in London, but I do love Harvey Nichols and Matchesfashion.com.

What are your favourite foodie recommendations in London? Do you have a favourite café, restaurant or bar?
Every time my friends are visiting I always recommend Dishoom in Shoreditch, Ceviche in Soho and Electric Diner in Notting Hill.
