Hotel du Vin Brighton

Verity Hogan,

Dedicated to all things wine related, Hotel du Vin is the ideal home for connoisseurs looking to combine their passion for a fine vintage with a weekend at the coast. Set among the historic Lanes, the hotel is surrounded by boutiques, independent galleries and quirky cafes, as well as being just a short stroll from the acclaimed Brighton seafront.

Built in 1695 by a wine merchant, the hotel comprises of several gothic-styled buildings surrounding a central courtyard; the perfect spot for a quiet drink on a warm summer evening or for sampling Hotel du Vin’s impressive cigar selection.

The hotel’s love of wine as well as its coastal setting inspires the décor. Within the double height hall, an ornately carved staircase and host of bizarre gargoyles dominate, while wooden seagulls swoop across the ceiling above. Relax in the inviting lounge, filled with merlot coloured armchairs and driftwood lamps or raise a toast in the glass-walled Laroche wine tasting den where you can choose to try one of more than 700 different vintages.

Upstairs, the spacious bedrooms are all named after a celebrated winery, with dedicated prints on the walls. Sky-blue wood paneling gives each space a beach-hut feel while coastal shades of sand and aquamarine add to the seaside styling. Beds are decked in luxurious white Egyptian linen while the en-suite bathrooms feature monsoon showers and sumptuous scroll top baths.

Indulge with a stay in the prestigious Cristal loft suite where you can take breakfast on your private roof terrace overlooking the beach below or share a romantic evening with the side-by-side free-standing baths complimented by indulgent products exclusively supplied by Arran Aromatics.

Dine in the Bistro adorned with more wine related artwork. Enjoy a casual, light lunch as the sunlight pours in from the floor to ceiling windows or visit in the evening for a more intimate candlelit meal. Head chef Rob Carr uses fresh local produce throughout his classically French menu with each dish matched to a wine from the extensive and eclectic selection available – a faultless end to your seaside sojourn.
