Hannah Lewis ,

Here at Global Blue we’ve done all the hard work so you don’t have to. Our team has explored Istanbul countless times, as well as interviewing some of the most stylish in-the-know locals, and we’ve gathered our insider knowledge to bring you eight places in the city you might not have heard of. From the concept restaurant that cooks in the style of ancient Turkish royalty to the hard-to-find museum of mosaics, you’re sure to find something new to suit your taste.

The restaurant
‘The chefs here scoured archive recipes to come up with a menu comprised entirely of dishes eaten by royals from the 15th to the 18th centuries – weird and wonderful but, most importantly, delicious.’
- Verity Hogan, city guide and lifestyle editor

Āsitāne, Kariye Camii Sokak 6, 34240 Edirnekapı, +90 (0)212 635 7997

The fashion boutique
‘The Loft has a great selection of top fashion labels, but what really singles it out – aside from its location – is the service.’
- Daria Orlova, associate Russian editor

The Loft, Mim Kemal Öke Cadessi 6/6, Nişantaşı, +90 (0)212 325 3595

The bakery
‘Beyaz Firin bakeries are all across the city, so you may have seen them before, but have you ever been in? Whenever I’m working in Istanbul I always pop into one of the branches for breakfast, and so does everyone else.’
- Sally McIlhone, managing editor

Beyaz Firin, Yasa Caddesi 23, 81300 Kadıköy, +90 (0)216 349 1313

The local label
‘One of the best things about travelling to a new place is discovering a local designer. Oye designs the most beautiful swimwear: handmade and luxurios'.
- Dominique Fenn, fashion editor

Beymen, Zorlu Center AVM, Beşiktaş, +90 (0)212 306 3300

The museum
‘You could walk past this museum a hundred times without seeing it, but once you know it’s there it’s a great place to escape the crowds and view beautiful ancient artefacts.’
- Dorcas Brown, picture editor

Istanbul Mosaic Museum, Sultanahmet, Eminönü, +90 (0)212 518 1205

The foodie area
‘A local designer once recommended the Galata Bridge area to me for seafood and I’ve never looked back. Simply the best fish I have eaten in the city.’
- Hannah Lewis, assistant fashion editor

The curiosity shop
‘This is a great place for unusual souvenirs. I always find something unique to take home.’
- Ruairidh Pritchard, menswear reporter

Kağıthane, Kemankeş Caddesi 10, Karaköy, +90 (0)212 244 1583; Trump Towers AVM, Cadde Katı C4, Mecidiyeköy, +90 (0)212 347 9250

The café
‘I love coffee, and a cute coffee shop is the first place I look for in a new city. This one is friendly and quaint, and offers a menu of coffees from different cultures around the world.’
- Gemma Latham, fashion assistant

Karabatak, Kemankeş Kara Mustafa Paşa Mahallesi, Kara Ali Kaptan Sokak 7, 34425 Karaköy, +90 (0)212 243 6993
