Istanbul’s Galleria shopping centre

Since the 1980s Istanbul’s residents have embraced the idea of indoor shopping centres and now nearly every neighbourhood in the city has one. Here’s our guide to Galleria Ataköy, which is located on the edge of Ataköy Marina, close to Istanbul’s Atatürk airport

If you’ve just landed at Istanbul’s Atatürk airport and need a swift retail fix, the Galleria shopping mall at Ataköy Marina is the place to head for. One of the first modern shopping centres to be built in Turkey, Galleria is based upon the Houston Galleria in Texas. Opened in 1988, it covers over 77,000 square metres.

Galleria houses many of the world’s best international and local brands and department stores including Adidas, Mothercare, Swatch, Accessorize, Beymen, Vakko, Bosch and many more.

As well as shops, you will also find restaurants, a bowling alley and cinema and there is an ice-skating rink at the bottom of the main atrium. Regular arts and cultural events are also held at Galleria and it’s therefore a popular destination for visitors and locals alike.

Galleria’s marina-side location and its proximity to the Ataköy Yacht Club provide a relaxing introduction to shopping in Istanbul.
