Istanbul named Destination of the Year

Sally Ashley-Cound ,

Istanbul has been named Destination of the Year at the Food and Travel Magazine Reader Awards.

The only city in the world to straddle two continents has always been popular with travellers and is now regarded as one of Europe’s top city-break destinations with more than 8m visitors every year.

Chosen by readers of the gourmet travel magazine, Istanbul beat other major destinations including Beirut, New York, Stockholm and Hong Kong to take the top spot.

With Istanbul recently ranked the seventh best destination in the world at the Trip Advisor 2012 Travellers’ Choice awards, director of the Turkish Culture and Tourism Office in the UK Tolga Tuyluoglu was extremely happy to add this new award to Istanbul’s growing collection of accolades: ‘We are thrilled that Istanbul has won this prestigious award, which is even more meaningful given that it is chosen by the readers of Food and Travel Magazine themselves.’
