City Guide
Ashlee Beard,

Where do you live?
Vasastan, near Odenplan.

What’s the best thing about your neighbourhood?  Vasastan and Birkastan have always been my favourite neighbourhoods. They have nice restaurants, good little boutiques and I love their proximity to Hagaparken.

Where would you live if money were no object?
I’d be happy to stay in Vasastan, but maybe in a bigger apartment.

What do you like about Stockholm?
It’s so beautiful! All the water, the little islands of the archipelago, and I also think that it’s a good size for a city – not too big, but not too small.

And what do you dislike about it?
That it lies so far north and becomes so dark during the winter.

Where do you like to shop?
I often visit Cow Parfymeri on Mäster Samuelsgatan. The Malene Birger boutique on Biblioteksgatan is wonderful and always has beautiful clothes, as does Jus boutique on Brunnsgatan.

Where do you go for pampering?
I have my hair done at Mikas Koivisto/Karlsson on Tegnérgatan; I visit the Grand Hôtel’s spa for massages; and I go to my friend Annelie at Annelies Skönhetskammare on Nytorgsgatan in Söder for fantastic facials.

Which are your favourite restaurants?
Teatergrillen on Nybrogatan – go for the cod with clarified butter and potatoes; Rolfs Kök on Tegnérgatan for braised ox cheek with truffle mashed potato and Itamae on Odengatan for sushi.

And your favourite cafes?
Kafé Esaias on Drottninggatan – Johan and his friends serve the world’s best coffee – and Ritorno in Vasaparken, which looks exactly the same as it always has. It serves buns called en sån.

Where do you go for special occasions?
Bar Riche on Birger Jarlsgatan or Teatergrillen on Nybrogatan. It’s always nice to go there.

Where do you take friends from out of town?
Rosendals Trädgård is wonderful, especially in summer.

Which is your favourite cultural destination?
I love to visit the Opera because the building is so wonderfully beautiful. Then there is Dansens Hus, which is fantastic, with many great productions throughout the year.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Go to the gym, read and visit our summer house in the archipelago.

Which Swede do you most admire, and why?
Astrid Lindgren; she was wonderfully young at heart.

Finally, can you give us a beauty tip?
Cleansing, exfoliation and hydration for the skin. Less stress, more sleep and a lot of fun also help to keep us looking pretty!
