7 of Barcelona’s best boutiques

From fine jewellery to sport-luxe fashion, we pick seven amazing stores in the city of Barcelona

Theresa Harold and Fani Mari,

Barcelona is a must-visit destination, filled with things to see and do, from world-famous architecture and amazing museums to the most tempting restaurants. The shopping scene is also impressive, offering everything from huge luxury fashion flagships to under-the-radar concept stores. With new boutiques on the scene all the time, we’ve picked some of our favourites to open in recent months, including Gap, Swarovski, Lacoste and Rabat, as well as some local stores you might not have heard of yet.

A fine balance
At Spanish label Syngman Cucala, the philosophy is one of balance and the play between classic and modern, high and low. This results in truly directional yet completely wearable collections – if you’re looking to discover a local label, this could be the one for you.

Gap comes to town
American fashion label Gap has arrived in Barcelona with a shop-in-shop at El Corte Inglés department store, its second opening in Spain after its successful debut at Malaga airport. Famous for its casual-cool aesthetic and second-to-none basics, Gap is often seen as the quintessential American high-street brand, and this space – which covers 400 square metres – is surely a welcome addition to Barcelona’s shopping scene. Visit to snap up everything from versatile outerwear to denim staples.

Swarovski’s new look
Swarovski’s Rambla de Catalunya boutique is looking more inviting than ever following an eye-catching makeover themed around elegance and glitter. It’s a definite must-see when visiting the city, with a wide range of the label’s covetable creations on display. Swarovski was founded in 1895 as a small crystal-cutting factory in Austria; today the brand’s crystals are probably the most famous in the world.

Beautiful sport
Following a two-month refurbishment, Lacoste’s store on Passeig de Gràcia reopened in March this year with an inspiring new look. Reflecting the brand’s current slogan of ‘Life is a beautiful sport’, the shop is divided into different sections for the various collections: menswear, womenswear, childrenswear and accessories. Presented over 400 square metres, the high-concept boutique incorporates elements of the brand’s heritage throughout the décor. For example, tennis racquets are displayed prominently, alongside the ubiquitous crocodile mascot. Fans will be thrilled to immerse themselves in such a well-thought out space.

The perfect setting
Spanish jeweller Rabat has just opened an impressive flagship in Casa Codina, a striking modernist building on elegant Passeig de Gràcia. The store occupies three floors of the 1898 structure, which means there is plenty of room to display the latest collections from Rabat, as well as a lavish selection from some of the top names in fine watches and jewellery. In this stylish and comfortable space, the members of staff pride themselves on giving visitors the best service imaginable.

All for one
La Comercial, a group of boutiques in the El Born district, has become known for its wide range of international labels such as Kenzo, Nixon and Alexander McQueen. The various stores offer an eclectic selection of menswear, womenswear and homeware, and fragrance connoisseurs will be spoiled for choice with brands such as Byredo, Histoires de Parfums and L’Artisan Parfumeur all available. Established over 11 years ago, this treasure trove of designer clothes, accessories and beauty products is a must-visit for any fashion lover. The newest addition to the La Comercial family is in the W Hotel, overlooking the sea in Barceloneta, where visitors will find a handpicked selection of beautiful designer pieces.
