Festivals are an important part of South Korean culture and many traditional celebrations are based on myths and legends, as well as the changing of the seasons – a strong reference to the country’s agricultural heritage. Modern Korean festivals focus more around fun and celebrate unique and sometimes weird and wacky events in a bid to attract visitors. Here we look at the seven celebrations you can’t afford to miss, from the traditional Seoul Lantern Festival to the very messy Boryeong Mud Festival.
