This intricately carved wall plaque by Royal Selangor depicts various designs of the wau, a traditional Malaysian kite flown in villages to celebrate successful rice harvests. In Malaysian culture, as in many across the world, the soaring of a kite represents aspirations for success, and the wau also represents the strengthening of human relationships. Royal Selangor, founded in 1885, is one of the world’s oldest pewter specialists and its Kuala Lumpur pewter factory is the largest in the world. The firm has a well-deserved reputation for uncompromising quality and any visitor to Malaysia should seek out one of its beautiful creations.
