Gucci celebrates 50 years in Japan

Gucci is celebrating 50 years since the brand opened its first boutique in Tokyo with a series of special events and an exclusive capsule collection conceived to commemorate the fashion house

Emily Scrivener,

Italian luxury house Gucci is commemorating 50 successful years in Japan with a series of exclusive initiatives and a special capsule collection. Beginning in March, the brand will present a series of special events designed to celebrate the fashion house’s craftsmanship. The year’s first event is The House of Artisans, which will showcase the artistry involved in the brand’s most iconic shoes, handbags, fine jewellery and silk scarves. This will first be presented at Shinjuku’s Isetan department store and will subsequently travel to Gucci Ginza in July and Hankyu Umeda in Osaka in October.

In addition, creative director Frida Giannini has designed an exclusive capsule collection in recognition of this anniversary year. The collection includes handbags, ready-to-wear, silks, shoes and jewellery all inspired by the house’s Flora pattern.

In May, Gucci will open the renovated Aoyama flagship store in Omotesando, Tokyo, which will see a special debut exhibition showcasing Gucci Premiere gowns.
