Trajan’s Market
While Monti is known for its quirky boutiques, it is also home to Trajan’s Market, Rome’s ancient shopping centre. The architectural complex was built between 107 and 110AD, and was the site of shops and offices, where Romans would gather to conduct business. Despite its age, it is in surprisingly good condition and a fascinating place to explore Roman architecture and get a feel for the daily lives of citizens in ancient Rome.

Ai Tre Scalini
For one of the best enoteca wine shops in the area head to Ai Tre Scalini. With its ivy-lined doorway and rustic wooden bar it is the very picture of Italian living. Founded in 1895, it has built up a loyal following and the place is packed out by 7pm. Get here early and enjoy a selection of small plates from the daily changing menu. The wines are also very impressive, with a huge list of over a hundred labels. Warm and inviting, this is a wonderful place to enjoy the atmosphere of Monti.
