Valentino celebrates 50th anniversary

A new store and a capsule collection mark 50 years of the fashion house

Jen Barton,

Renowned Italian fashion house Valentino celebrates its 50th anniversary this year with two new projects: a flagship store on Via Montenapoleone, designed by David Chipperfield, and a capsule collection from creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli. The new store will feel like a palazzo, with understated-yet-opulent fixtures and fittings such as grey Venetian terrazzo tiles with Carrara marble chippings, plush wool and silk carpeting, and marble chessboard floors.

Each room is devoted to a different aspect of the brand’s collection, with LED lighting illuminating shelves and racks of clothing, while grey leather walls add an intimate, cosy feel to dressing rooms. The accessories area evokes a library with its mosaic of mirrors; furniture is a mix of unusual modern pieces and art deco-inspired units.

The new space also houses Valentino’s 50th-anniversary capsule collection featuring practical pieces such as a fitted pea coat, boxy top, pleated skirt and studded Chelsea boots in animal prints including giraffe, tiger, zebra and panther. This is a truly luxurious shopping experience.
