While many designers this season have been looking to outer space for inspiration, the Missoni woman is coming back to Earth with rays of sun on her tail. Shown in one of Milan’s lightest spaces, this was a fresh and bright collection representing a rebirth for this established fashion house. It opened with an all-white palette, gradually incorporating bursts of orange, yellow and aquamarine and a touch of shimmer with sequin embellishment. Maxi dresses were presented with full skirts of flame-coloured fabric, while more restrained trapeze dresses with halternecks were paired with heavy crystal chokers.
There was a hint of last-season Prada in the co-ordinating suiting, but this was given a Missoni twist with its knitting-pattern print and the addition of 1960s-style pedal pushers peeking out from beneath long-length blazers. As expected from Missoni, knitwear was integral to the collection but noticeably lighter, layered over dresses and crafted into barely there cardigans that suited the summery feel and gave this heritage brand a modern twist.
