‘I like to consider myself a maker of beauty. Beauty inspires me, in all its shapes. It is first of all a philosophy of life. I love to surround myself with beautiful objects, characterised by fine quality and uniqueness, and these are also the main requisites of the Santoni collections.
‘The toughest challenge for us is to constantly maintain our traditional craftsmanship and our culture of handmade, at a time when everything is about saving money and making economic choices. We combine tradition and innovation, craftsmanship and modern thinking, quality and design, which are all essential in such a competitive environment. We love to reinterpret the classics, making them contemporary.
‘Our Via Montenapoleone store was designed by the famous architect Patricia Urquiola, who I’ve admired since the beginning of her career. As well as being creative, she understood our soul and DNA and was able to transfer these into the interiors of our boutique. The space is divided into two rooms where the worlds of Santoni man and woman converge and where we aim to create an intimate atmosphere.
‘The standout element is a modular grill, reproduced as a pattern on the walls. We opened this boutique in 2013 with a very nice event attended by friends of the brand, including the very elegant French actress Juliette Binoche.
‘When you are located on Via Montenapoleone you are in the best possible location. We currently have five people working in the store, to satisfy all the needs of our local and international clientele.
‘The shoes which currently best encapsulate Santoni are the men’s double monk shoe, which have been coloured by hand and are smart and elegant. For women, the highlight of our spring/summer 2017 collection is an amazing suede sandal which features an embroidered fringe of coins and beads, in a perfect Casablanca style.
‘The history of our company is quite short, 40 years are nothing compared with some other luxury brands. In the first two decades we focused on the commercial side and distribution, while in the last few years we have looked at ‘brand building’: thinking about how to position the excellence of our product among the most iconic luxury names worldwide. I’m really proud of this development and of the results we got in such a short time.’
