On Wednesday Valentino staged a menswear runway show showcasing its latest collection ahead of next spring. The event, part of the 82nd Pitti Uomo, saw male models walk the runway in casual but structured clothing with a clear military influence.
The show started with a sport theme, with models wearing ankle-length cropped trousers in mid grey and beige teamed with smart sneakers and oversized, sporty, leather-panelled overcoats reminiscent of motorcycle jackets. As the show progressed, the polo shirts and outerwear became brighter, with summer colours of mid-tone orange, soft yellow and green.
From here, the collection moved towards casual military, with camouflage jackets accessorised with matching man bags, khaki loose-fitting trousers, soft brown trainers and sunglasses. For the smarter Valentino man, the suits were loosely tailored and teamed with crisp white shirts contrasted with khaki trainers and accessories, creating a smart-casual outfit for today’s modern gentleman.
A common theme throughout was the distinct lack of smart shoes, as each model accessorised with a pair of trainers, showing that the days of power-dressing are over as menswear moves towards a smart-casual everyday style.
