Celebrate Chinese New Year at de Bijenkorf

Chinese New Year on 31 January marks the start of the Year of the Horse and Amsterdam’s de Bijenkorf is marking the occasion with a selection of special events and exclusive gifts

Emily Scrivener,

From 3pm on 31 January 2014, visitors to de Bijenkorf's Amsterdam store will be treated to exclusive events to celebrate Chinese New Year and the beginning of the Year of the Horse. The first floor will be transformed into a cultural hub with music and entertainment all afternoon. Among the entertainments will be a performance by traditional Chinese lion and dragon dancers, symbolically warding off evil spirits and bringing happiness to all.

Visitors will be able to get into the festive spirit with traditional Chinese music, and learn how to drink and serve tea as the Chinese do. On the ground floor a mysterious Chinese princess will be handing out lucky packets, including gifts from Diamond Point, to a select number of lucky shoppers. To mark the special occasion and as a memento of the day, visitors will be able to have their name in Chinese characters inscribed on rice paper.
