Tumi seeks to prevent theft from travellers

The technology that’s making it easier than ever before to pay for small purchases could be used by thieves to steal from unwary shoppers

Concerns are arising that crowded underground transport, trains, airports and checkout queues could become prime locations for crimes related to radio-frequency identification (RFID), as contactless bank cards and apps for smartphones become more readily available. Thieves could potentially steal information such as credit card numbers by using a RFID-enabled card reader when passing close to an intended victim.

With this possibility in mind, the new Ticon collection from travel accessory and luggage specialist Tumi incorporates a protective feature, the Tumi ID Lock, which incorporates a unique material made of metal threads designed to block this kind of hacking. The Ticon collection is stylish and practical and includes best-selling styles from Tumi’s travel, business and lifestyle collections, in a variety of colours from classic black to summery raspberry and marigold.
