What was the first item of clothing you ever made?
An A-line skirt and handbags.
What is it like to study at Central Saint Martins?
Central Saint Martins is considered one of the best womenswear design colleges in fashion design schools in the world. It is very tough, has lots of independent study and offers good training not only in design but in concept and character-building.
Where do you start when you design a piece from scratch – what inspires you?
My inspiration could be anything, depending how it connects to me as fashion elements. It could be visual effects or patterns or files or materials.
Can you tell us more about the designs you’ve entered for the Peek & Cloppenburg Designer for Tomorrow award?
My collection was based on visual art and patterns, recreated by the character of the materials and their combined silhouette. The process of making it was very difficult because I insist on choosing materials like glass and ceramics. I believe that materials have their own language so I refuse to change them to plastic or lighter kinds of material. The collection went through many experiments and all kind of possibilities to achieve the final effect and apply the glass and ceramics to silk and organza. The technical trials needed to create the best results were very hard, but a great success.
What did you think when you found out Stella McCartney would be one of the judges of the Designer for Tomorrow award?
It was unbelievable and a great honour to have such an amazing designer actually come to talk me through my collection and discuss it with me.
What was it like to meet Stella McCartney?
The whole process was very good. We spent most of time discussing the concept of designing and how to bring the collection to the next step and make it better.
What do you think your biggest challenge is?
The commercial value of my work.
What are the top five things you’ll be bringing with you to survive Berlin Fashion Week?
My scissors, pins, glass, ceramic and the mental support of my friends.
And, most importantly, will you be wearing one of your own creations on the night?
I would love to but I’m not sure because my design is a bit conceptual – I’ll bring accessories.
