Vitsœ opens first German store

Furniture design store Vitsœ has opened its first German store in the Kunstareal district of Munich

Sally Ashley-Cound,

Vitsœ, distributor of some of the most iconic and functional furniture designs in the world since 1959, has opened its first store in Germany – also its first in mainland Europe.

The move to Germany is apt as in December 2012 Vitsœ announced that it would become the exclusive worldwide licensee for the complete collection of German industrial designer Dieter Rams. Rams is widely known not only as one of the longest-standing designers for household appliance maker Braun and for the 606 shelving system he designed for Vitsœ, but also for his 10 principles of good design, which range from ‘good design is innovative’ and ‘good design makes a product useful’ to ‘good design is as little design as possible’.

This new Vitsœ store is a new step for the furniture company, which already has stores in London, New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo. Vitsœ Munich showcases the history of the company through Rams’s designs and also features a new, colourful children’s room which shows how a small initial purchase can be expanded over time.

The new Vitsœ store is located in the Kunstareal district of Munich, opposite Ballabeni, one of Munich’s finest ice-cream parlours, and very close to the Pinakothek der Moderne international design museum and Museum Brandhorst.
