‘I live in Munich. I like that it is big enough to breathe freely and at the same time is small enough to feel comfortable. Munich is a city where people love to go on their holidays. The laissez-faire attitude of the people in Munich impresses me every day – happy people are the people I most admire. For me, happiness and relaxation mean spending time with my family: my wife, my children, my dogs.
‘Every city has its own attractions and I can feel at home anywhere, as long as my family are there too. The US has a special attraction for us; the scale of the country is fascinating and New York is an amazing city. I could live anywhere as long as my family were with me – oh, and as long as I had my iPad. I cannot live without my iPad.
‘In front of the Lodenfrey Munich am Dom store there is a small coffee shop, Schumann’s TagesBar. A small espresso from there makes me happy the whole day.
‘In the area around the Hotel Bayerischer Hof there are a lot of shops that offer vintage watches. I very much like to have a good rummage there.
‘Schumann’s restaurant at the Odeonsplatz offers star cuisine with international flair for lunch and Charles Schumann’s two restaurants enrich Munich. If we want to have a special dinner, we go to the Tantris restaurant, which has been awarded two Michelin stars. There is no better restaurant to enjoy excellent cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere.
‘My favourite walk in Munich is in the ‘Bermuda Triangle’, between Maffeistrasse, Theatinerstrasse and Residenzstrasse.
‘The Olympiaturm in Olympiapark offers a unique and amazing 360-degree view, together with delicious food – the award-winning cuisine of chef Otto Koch at Restaurant 181.
‘The Hofgarten at the Odeonsplatz is a place only insiders know about. It is like something between Versailles and the Marais in Paris – a calm place in the middle of the city.
‘My favourites are also the wonderful attractions between Schloss Nymphenburg and the Allianz Arena in Fröttmaning and, of course, the most beautiful and traditional festival in the world – the unique Oktoberfest.
‘We have a lot of interesting museums in Munich. My favourites are the Alte Pinakothek and the Pinakothek der Moderne.
‘A trip on tram 19 is my favourite way to get around Munich – it goes around the whole city.’
