This stunning building, located in the heart of Cologne on the historic and beautiful Hohe Strasse, housed the city’s first department store. Built by German merchant and entrepreneur Leonhard Tietz in 1892, Tietz department store was filled with high-end products including Parisian perfumes and Italian leather goods for affluent residents of the city to enjoy. One of the most popular areas of the store was the refreshments room, which provided customers with beverages and delicious delicacies. The building is now home to Galeria Kaufhof, one of the largest department stores in Europe. Covering 31,000 square metres, it carries an array of international brands such as Calvin Klein, Esprit, Replay, S Oliver and Hugo Boss to help modern-day visitors and residents stay stylish.
