City Guide
Sufiyeh Hadian-Clarke,

Berlin plays host to a number of summer festivals this month. From Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week for celeb spotting and street style, via Classic Open Air where you can picnic while watching opera, to myths and legends at the city’s botanical gardens, there’s something for everyone.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week
From 4 to 7 July, Berlin becomes a fashion hotspot, showcasing the spring/summer collections from Germany’s best designers to fashion insiders. Major shows include Show & Order, which features high-fashion labels, while Seek is a catwalk for urban and streetwear brands. There’s also an eco angle, with discussions of the latest trends and questions surrounding sustainable fashion – this season, Greenshowroom and the Ethical Fashion Show take centre stage.

Classic Open Air
Gendarmenmarkt, one of the most picturesque squares in Europe, makes a stunning backdrop to this open-air classical music festival, which takes place from 20 to 24 July 2017. The performances include classical versions of rock, pop and jazz along with the traditional German and Italian opera. The varied programme, which includes light shows and fireworks, provides fun for all the family.

Botanische Nacht
Once a year, Berlin’s botanical garden hosts an evening of wonder, with the flowerbeds, themed gardens and glasshouses illuminated while mythical creatures roam around. This year, thanks to popular demand, there are two dates – Friday 21 and Saturday 22 July. Visitors will be able to enjoy cabaret, theatre and dance performances coupled with delicious German delicacies until 2am. The night is rounded off with a huge firework display above the gardens.
