American actress Kate Bosworth was in attendance to watch next summer’s Hugo by Hugo Boss womenswear collection go down the catwalk at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin yesterday evening. The Superman Returns star wore a black backless Hugo Boss dress to the show, which was influenced by the digital world. Slick tailoring and the classic fit for which Hugo Boss is known was ever present, but these traditional ideas were translated into futuristic designs through designer Bart de Backer’s use of high-tech materials.
This collection continued the idea of last winter’s techno tailoring and took it further using colour and contrasting materials together. ‘For me, the spring/summer collection starts softly and then it’s going to be like a firework,’ de Backer said. ‘Blue, spring green and also a little bit of citron combined with some off-tones: the collection is a lot about colours, but also about using very different materials together.’
Sheer asymmetric blouses were contrasted with silk Capri pants, suits were hi-sheen electric blue and a material that emulated the reflections on a swimming pool rippled down the front of an A-line dress and was cut into the sides of a sea-green shift dress. Although all these materials move, hang and react to the light differently, their minimal luxe sheen tied together this futuristic and technologically advanced but highly wearable collection.
