Paris Men’s Fashion Week spring/summer 2014: Thursday

Our second day at Paris Men’s Fashion Week includes highlights from 3.1 Phillip Lim, Parisian favourite Louis Vuitton and Dries Van Noten

Marina Nelson,

8.33am
3.1 Phillip Lim:
Up bright and early this morning for a dockside seat at the 3.1 Phillip Lim showcase. We woke up as soon as the models began to cruise the dock in oversized check prints, striped, loose-fitting trousers, eastern-themed patterned slacks and city boy shorts.

Modern accessories joined the mix-and-match collection, with models taking the sport luxe trend to a new level with chic bandanas and gym-style day bags

12.20pm
Rick Owens
: Rick Owens brought us an acrobatic rock-band backdrop for the lunchtime runway show. Models strode around the band showcasing a collection stripped back to a minimalist black and white palette with a slightly grungy aesthetic.

@Dazed_Fashion tweeted: Lost for words at Rick Owens...

Details included fringing, tassels, feminine cutouts and sleeveless asymmetric biker jackets. Coats maintained the cocoon style from last season, while shorts and mesh string vests lightened the dark mood of the collection.

@PetaOdini tweeted: Rick Owens is a boss... #PFW

1.30pm
Louis Vuitton:

British GQ tweeted: Another year, another impressive location for Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton revisited some of its classic styles for the new season. Pinstriped tailored suits opened the show, with colour-pop accessories. Classic caramel brown jackets featured African tribal-inspired designs, before the collection moved into the light and airy with super-short shorts.

Varsity-style jackets reminiscent of Vuitton’s Damier Masaï canvas sneakers from previous collections joined check print trousers and smart leather loafers in a new twist on sport luxe.

Off-duty military-style parka coats and paisley kaftans were matched with chic city tailoring, showing the fashion crowd that Louis Vuitton can do casual, sports luxe and classic tailoring all rolled into one, without losing its Parisian signature.

6.26pm
Dries Van Noten:
Our last show for the day took us to Dries Van Noten, where the gothic theme was tweaked with deep-toned florals, baroque-style prints and loosely fitting patterned trousers for a new summer wardrobe.

Casual golden brown utility shirts joined high-waisted floral-print trousers and canvas plimsolls for a new take on menswear for the new season.

@Betty_SSFW tweeted: Dries Van Noten was amazing. Concert of drums during the whole show & the boys stayed so we could see them closer, touch the fabrics. #pfw
