Spotlight on: Moynat’s famous trunks

We went behind the scenes at Moynat to discover a brief history of its famous luggage

Marina Nelson,

When it comes to premium luxury leather, Moynat, with its expert finishes and custom colours, is one of the first brands that springs to mind. We spoke to Moynat’s managing director Guillaume Davin to gain an insight into the brand’s prestigious history.

Since it was launched in 1849, Moynat has become one of the world’s most popular luxury trunk-makers; the brand’s most frequent customers come from Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

The secrets of Moynat’s success include bespoke features and the use of traditional crafting techniques to create contemporary styles. Most of Moynat’s luggage is made in the brand’s signature styles and its famous handmade trunks are only available for purchase in the Moynat boutique in Paris. The quality of Moynat’s exclusive materials today reflects the quality of those used in the early 20th century and most of the company’s trunks are still made to order by highly skilled craftsmen.

The elite of the art and fashion worlds are enthusiastic fans of Moynat’s premium-quality trunks and clients include none other than Karl Lagerfeld.
