With the London 2012 Olympics fast approaching, Louis Vuitton has created a sport-themed collection mixed with classic menswear staples for spring/summer 2013.
The much-anticipated menswear show comes hot on the heels of its autumn/winter womenswear show where models disembarked from an old-fashioned steam train in homage to bygone eras. The men’s show opened with classic tailoring in navy blue and beige, with loose-fitting trousers and crisp white tennis shoes creating a relaxed daytime look.
Later, varying blue-grey shades were introduced, with relaxed knits with oversized outerwear, before the collection moved into looks inspired by a host of sporting activities and the great outdoors. Key notes included sport luxe, scuba diving, camping and a Wimbledon-inspired tennis collection.
Sport luxe had an urban retro feel as dungarees made a comeback along with oversized tracksuits with splashes of neon yellow recalling the 1980s. The casual-chic camping collection had a laidback Australian outback outlook with the models wearing camping gear in khaki and brown, teamed with festival backpacks and adjustable sun hats. The navy blue option featured slashes of bright orange, making it perfect for more everyday wear.
The water-sports-inspired pieces included wetsuits complete with the Louis Vuitton logo emblazoned across the chest, while the tennis-style collection included high-leg gym shorts, slubby knits, fluorescent sports bags and angular sunglasses. To round off the show, the sporty theme was taken down a notch with patchwork-style shirts teamed with tailored trousers and desert sandals.
It’s clear that the French fashion house is a fan of the great outdoors, and we couldn’t agree more, as it seems next year is all about keeping fit while remaining effortlessly stylish.
