The Normandy coastal town of Deauville was the inspiration behind many of Gabrielle Chanel’s signature looks. It was here that Chanel opened her first shop; at Deauville she sold revolutionary clothing that borrowed from the stripes, beige and jersey fabrics of the sailors in town.
Perfumer Olivier Polge wanted to capture the promise of a weekend away in the seaside resort when creating Paris-Deauville. Accords of orange rind, petitgrain and aromatic basil create a fresh opening note to the fragrance ,before essence of rose and jasmine-like accords add a floral heart. With base notes of wood and patchouli, Paris-Deauville is a carefree, fresh fragrance and one that evokes the essence of the Normandy village
After the death of her lover, Boy Capel, Gabrielle Chanel went to Venice. It was here that she regained her zest for life, and she became intoxicated with the style and history of the city. Chanel Paris-Venise draws inspiration from the journey from Paris on the Orient Express to Venice. An evocation of baroque glamour, the perfume aims to capture the smells of the orient and of urban living. It uses citrus notes of neroli, tangy red berries, floral iris and Grasse geranium together with soft vanilla and oriental scents that warm the skin and have a heady fragrance. Lovers of feminine and vanilla perfumes will be drawn to this one.
At the Basque coastal town of Biarritz Gabrielle Chanel spent summers rubbing shoulders with members of high society and it was here that she opened her first couture house. The glamorous resort is the inspiration for the third fragrance in the Eaux de Chanel collection. Inspired by the sea, Chanel Paris-Biarritz is an aquatic, sporty fragrance combining energising notes of grapefruit, mandarin, citrus and lily of the valley. With vetiver and white musk notes to finish, it conjures the sense of a refreshing dip in the sea.
