Trainers are one of the biggest footwear trends for spring/summer 2018 and a whole host of styles appeared on the SS18 catwalks. Many of the biggest fashion week players brought sneakers to the fore of their collections, pairing both daywear and evening dresses with tennis shoes. Many designers also reinvented the traditional trainer aesthetic, including Loewe with its elf-like creations that were the talk of the show. Louis Vuitton made a strong case for the return of athleisure, teaming brocade frock coats with silk running shorts and thick super-arched trainers. Prada switched up its comic book-inspired looks with playful kitten heels, studded sandals and chunky futuristic-style sneakers. Those who prefer more traditional styles should look to Italian brands such as Tod’s and Brunello Cucinelli which offer leather and suede versions that will stand the test of time.
