Isabella Redmond Styles,

Established over 150 years ago, Helsinki’s Stockmann is Finland’s largest department store group. Founded in 1862 by GF Stockmann, by 1880 it had moved into spacious new premises on the city’s Senaatintori (Senate square). It continued to prosper, and over the following decades more branches were established in Helsinki; the luxurious flagship on Aleksanterinkatu opened in 1930. It wasn’t until 1957 that Stockman expanded outside Helsinki; today, it has stores in Moscow and Tallinn, as well as its own chain of Stockmann Beauty stores.
