Great steak and amazing views at Mash Penthouse

Award-winning steak house Mash is known for its outstanding food, cocktails and atmosphere. Each of its eight restaurants ‒ six in Denmark and outposts in London and Hamburg ‒ is uniquely stylish and exudes the relaxed yet elegant atmosphere that has become a Mash trademark. Since opening its first restaurant in Copenhagen in 2009, Mash has built a strong and well-deserved reputation as a must-visit for steak lovers. The modern American-style steak house is world-renowned for its Kobe Wagyu beef, acknowledged by many as the best beef across the globe, and it is now recognised as the world’s biggest importer of this most luxurious of meats.

Mash soon went international, opening a spacious and stylish restaurant in London’s on-trend Soho area in 2012 and a Hamburg outpost in 2015. Each one of the brand’s celebrated locations is characterised by the laid-back elegance that made the first restaurant such a great success. And, of course, each Mash restaurant is renowned for the excellence of its food.

On the 12th floor of the famous Tivoli Hotel in Copenhagen, Mash Penthouse opened in October 2015 and has become known for its impressive views across the picturesque city and for its killer cocktails. On a sunny day, enjoying the two together on the roof terrace is a sublime experience. But no view can beat the tantalising tastes of the Mash menu, and these keep visitors coming back time and again.

Starters are varied, with each beautifully executed. Tartares of tuna or steak are perfectly complemented by crisp vegetables and a hint of chilli. For real luxury, the foie gras and lobster dishes are a must. Those in search of good old-fashioned comfort food should tuck into the al dente linguine with juicy tiger prawns.

The main event is, of course, the beef, and carnivores will delight in the range of steaks on offer. The certified Wagyu steaks ‒ including delectable Kobe Wagyu ‒ are exemplary, but other speciality steaks, from Denmark, the US, Uruguay and more, should not be overlooked. Many of the staff are true beef experts and you should make the most of their advice on the perfect cut for you as well as the best wine to sip alongside it. As with the other outposts, the wine selection at Mash Penthouse is world class. Beer lovers should try the house pilsner with their main course.

Beef of such standard needs little to accompany it, but Mash’s extensive menu of sauces and side dishes will probably prove irresistible. Deep-fried delicacies, from fries and onion rings to chilli cheese tops, nod to Mash’s American inspirations, as does the unbeatable Mac & Cheese (macaroni cheese). Meanwhile, the signature creamed potatoes are a Danish classic.

Finish your meal with one of Mash’s indulgent desserts. We recommend Dreamcake. Another Danish classic, reworked as a lighter and more modern version of the original vanilla sponge confection, this is a contender for the best dessert in Copenhagen.
