ludwig reiter has a rich heritage of shoe craftsmanship

Founded by Ludwig Reiter and his wife Anna, the first Ludwig Reiter workshop opened in Vienna in 1885. Within only a few years the firm was providing shoes for such important clients as the armed forces, gaining recognition across Austria for its exceptional workmanship.

In 1909 Reiter’s son, also called Ludwig, took the helm, using experience gained from travels in America to develop the workshop into a small shoe manufacturing plant. Ten years later the brand’s first shoe store opened on Wiedner Hauptstrasse. Named Piccadilly after one of the company’s most successful shoes at the time, the shop remains in the same premises to this day.

Over the past century, Ludwig Reiter has grown to become one of the most successful shoemakers in Austria and now has stores worldwide. Recent years have seen collaborations between the classic yet fashion-forward Viennese brand and designers that include Helmut Lang and Werner Baldessarini.
