Austrian designer Karin Oèbster’s private luxury label Kayiko offers avant-garde cuts in limited editions. She recommends her must-visit venues in Vienna

City Guide
Paulina Szmydke,

Where were you born?
Kaprun in the Salzburg Alps.

Where do you live?
In the 22nd district of Vienna, just two minutes from the Alte Donau (Old Danube).

What’s best about your neighbourhood?
It’s green. In the summer you can have breakfast in the garden and walk down to the river already wearing your bathing suit. It feels like being on vacation and yet the city is just 15 minutes away.

If money was no object where would you live?
Every year I would move somewhere different.

Which is your favourite Vienna street?
Gumpendorferstrasse between Getreidemarkt and Apollo Kino.

Which is your favourite restaurant in Vienna?
Gasthaus Schnattl on Lange Gasse.

And your favourite clothes and accessories stores?
Song on Praterstrasse and Kayiko on Windmühlgasse.

Where do you go for a drink with friends?
Bar Italia on Mariahilferstrasse.

Any recommendations for Austrian dishes to try? Kaspressknödelsuppe, a clear beef soup with semmelknödel mit käse (cheese dumplings).

Which places sum up Vienna for you?
The MuseumsQuartier and the Naschmarkt.

Where do you take out-of-town friends?
To the Heurigen Leitner in the 16th district for the best view over Vienna.

Which do you think is the best museum in town?
For modern art, MUMOK; for older works, the Kunsthistorisches Museum.

Which Viennese people do you most admire?
The designer Emilie Flöge and the actor Johannes Krisch.

Any advice for those visiting your city?
There are lots of things to see, discover and live outside of Vienna’s historical city centre. Explore!

Any places you’d recommend visitors avoid?
All those fast-food restaurants.

Can you recommend a good hotel?
The Altstadt and the Tyrol.

What can’t you live without?
Family and friends.
