Souvenir: Lucent Lustre

Paulina Szmydke ,

Lobmeyr, the Austrian glass and crystal maker, continues to surprise with new designs almost 200 years after its foundation. For 2010, young Italian designer Marco Dessi helped translate the house’s established techniques into new applications. Dessi wove a basket-like structure using glass tubes bent into hexagon shapes in combination with silken cords to produce a splendidly shaped lustre reminiscent of vintage lanterns. Following this brilliant limited-edition piece, it remains to be seen what illuminating product Lobmeyr will come up with next.
