Global Blue’s compliance with new data protection legislation

Global Blue is working to be fully compliant ahead of the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in Europe, meaning merchants can continue to be assured that Globe Shopper’s personal data is safe.

European data protection law has recently undergone significant developments, in particular, the adoption of the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which is effective from 25 May 2018.

Below are some steps Global Blue is taking in order to be compliant with all obligations:

  • Transparency: Updating the Global Blue Privacy Policy to include some of the specific information required by GDPR.
  • Accountability: Updating our compliance documentation by, in particular, consolidating our existing documentation into a data management manual.
  • Governance: The implementation of an internal governance council and appointing a data protection officer.
  • Security: Updating our data security policy which sets out how we protect personal and other business sensitive data.

Jeremy Henderson-Ross, General Counsel at Global Blue comments: “We know that the protection of Globe Shopper data is a matter of great importance to our merchant partners and compliance with data protection laws is a major priority for us. As such, we are working to ensure we are fully compliant with the new GDPR ahead of its legal enforcement.”
