Global Blue celebrates its 1000th transaction in Russia

After this month becoming the first VAT refund operator to launch in Russia, Global Blue has reached 1,000 Tax Free Shopping transactions in the country.

On April 102018, in coordination with the Russian Government’s announcement, Global Blue became the first Tax Free Shopping provider to launch in the country, meaning international customers can save up to 18% on purchases made in your Russian stores.

An experienced and reliable Tax Free Shopping operation

Following its successful launch, Global Blue has now reached 1,000 Tax Free Shopping transactions in Russia. With many stores already affiliated with Global Blue, there is an increasing number of transactions registered every day, showing a promising foundation for future growth, ahead of the football World Cup happening in the country next June.

Partnering with major retailers to boost Russia’s attractiveness

Russia represents an important market for luxury retailers, due to its increasing popularity among valuable Globe Shopper markets, such as China.

To further attract the valuable international shopping market, Global Blue is partnering closely with luxury shopping malls like GUM, premium department stores such as TSUM, and iconic brands in Moscow, St Petersburg, Sochi and other cities welcoming football World Cup matches in June. As part of this partnership, Global Blue is fully involved in several marketing activities and events with these key retail actors to further promote Tax Free Shopping in Russia.

How Tax Free Shopping works in Russia

The new legislation means that visitors from outside the Eurasian Economic Union can save up to 18% (standard VAT rate) when spending a minimum of RUB 10,000 on a wide variety of goods including fashion, technology, watches and jewellery or 10% on other goods including food, medicine and books, by reclaiming the VAT on their purchases when they leave the country.
