Japanese skincare and cosmetic products are very much in vogue worldwide and with good reason, as the hard-earned domestic reputation of Japanese cosmetics begins to spread internationally. However, even as some brands become household names internationally, the full selection and exclusive lines in Japan can be a little difficult to navigate for new visitors to Japan.
Here, the in-store Mitsukoshi Nihombashi team of expert skincare stylists will guide you through the products from the extensive selection.
The stylists have selected their three favourite moisturising creams, perfect for the discerning customer looking to start the new year with a revitalised beauty regime.
First is Moist Balance from Acseine, a particular recommendation for people who find conventional creams a little too sticky on their skin. ‘The soft gel feels just like water on the skin, but it still keeps your skin feeling healthy,’ says the skincare stylist. The perfume-free moisturiser is an equally good choice for either day or night, especially for those looking for a hydrating night cream that doesn’t sit heavily on the skin.
The LiftDynamic cream from Shiseido’s recently released Bio-Performance range is recommended for day or night use. ‘When used first thing in the morning, it doesn’t sit heavily on the skin and over time it helps to maintain a flawless complexion,’ says the resident stylist. The full anti-ageing care range is satisfyingly moisturising but with a texture light enough to be worn under make-up, leading to supple skin that can cope with cool weather or anything the bustling city can throw at you.
The Impress range from Kanebo is the brand’s most exclusive line and features Cream Excellent, a rich cream to be worn as a night cream. ‘It has a surprisingly firm texture, but it gently disappears into the skin,’ says the stylist. ‘You will really notice the difference when you apply foundation the following morning as, even on its own, the cream will achieve a matt, pearlescent radiance.’ Also recommended is the Granmula cream, a particularly luxurious option. ‘We call this the King of Creams among the Kanebo line-up,’ laughs the stylist. ‘This leaves your skin taut until morning, plump and hydrated but not greasy, and the fragrance is divine.’
